"Soul Ipsum celebrates the beauty of basketball on his new Charity Stripe EP. The four tracks, plus a breakbeat-happy remix by Chicago crew Purelink, capture the acrobatics and dynamism of basketball with their fleet beats. Meanwhile, the big, overlaying jazz chords hint at the game’s more sentimental aspects: the fond memories formed while playing, the camaraderie with your fellow players, the possibility that one of you might become a star" -- Daniel Bromfield, Wilamette Week.
Inspired by global ambitions and collective memory, of transcendent moments in time shared thru hoop, and missing 100% of the shots you don’t take. It’s bigger than a game....this is “Charity Stripe”
Featuring a clutch ambient jungle remix by Chicago squad Purelink, who who’ve been putting up sweeter sounds than a swish and shooting up the boards since going b2b on a compilation for Lillerne last year. “Charity Stripe” brings the Lo-fi sounds of Soul Ipsum (Arcane, 1080p) into the bigger arena, club ready and fit to skip a pond or two.
“Run It Back”, finds the artist doubling down with a titular vocal refrain amid an atmospheric trance build, breaking out of the instrumental dance music box for a funky house finesse. Whereas “Crossover” & “Eurostep” are on that progressive/house/tech trip for the big room. All in all a gassed up daydream in the key of hoop.
Dedicated to the memory of Mike Huckaby, Kelli Hand, and Paul Johnson. 50% of all proceeds to Urban League of Portland thru 2021.

Sometimes you can't just leave an album or an artist and hope that you remember their name later. To buy a few tracks to say thanks for their craft and help empower them to do more, seems right. wattsville, (Mike Watts)
